About The Institute

The National Institute for Literacy was established in 1991 by the National Literacy Act and extended under the Workforce Investment Act.

Susan Boorse

Susan Boorse has joined the Institute as Executive Officer with responsibility for budget and administration. Prior to joining the Institute, she was an Administrative Officer and Budget Analyst for the Peace Corps. Susan served four years as a VISTA Volunteer, working with a literacy program in Philadelphia, a rural school district in Mississippi and a fledgling Philadelphia Habitat for Humanity affiliate. She earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Missouri at Kansas City and has more than 20 years of experience in the federal government.
