American Indian Heritage Month

Event Description: In September 1915, President Calvin Coolidge issued a proclamation designating the second Saturday of each May as American Indian Day. It was the first such designation. In 1990, President George Bush endorsed a joint resolution of Congress calling for the observance of Native American Indian Heritage Month during the month of November. Since 1994, such proclamations have been issued every year.
