Jane,
thank you for this wonderful information and work you've done with the
Career Passport (#933). I plan to use this model for my class, and I'll
share it with other sites in Vermont who are using portfolios for
assessment. This piece is the missing link - How to present yourself to
an employer, how to explain what you've learned and what specific skills
you have acquired and mastered. It documents the value of the program
the student has been involved in; it is a major step toward establishing
accountability for what we as teachers are doing with students. It is
compact and concise. The student her/himself will be able to speak about
every documented skill knowledgeably because from the beginning it has
been clear what the standards are, and the student understands what
steps s/he has taken to accomplish the goals. It is a flexible
document, tailored to each individual.
I'm really excited to start using it, though my class only has 8 more
weeks to go. since they're already assembling portfolios and are
familiar with the Standards, I think we can adapt this Passport idea so
that students will leave clas with it in hand - that's my goal! and next
year, we'll start the year with this in mind. I will also order the
Career passport Implementation handbook.

	Thanks, Carolyn
