Dear Colleague,

The survey for a name for a system of adult education is off to a great
start. As of Monday Evening, April 3rd, more than 300 people weighed in.
So far, 82% are women; 50% are teachers, tutors or instructors; 70%
are involved in (provide, use or study) ESL/ESOL; 73% are in adult basic
literacy; 70% are in adult basic education; and 40% are in adult secondary
education. 34% are from the Northeast; 20% from the Southeast, 20% from
the Southwest, 19% from the Midwest, and 7% from the Northwest. Only 4%
are current or former adult learners or adult new readers.

A half dozen names are neck and neck; the leading name, by a hair,
is............ Adult Education (AE)

I appeal especially to those who can provide adult learners with access to
the Web. Please help many, many more adult learners to participate;
librarians, teachers, computer technology folks, community computing
center staff members, please help adult learners to weigh in.

The survey will remain on line until the end of April, but don't wait.
If you haven't already, take a few minutes now, go to the Web site and
have your views counted.
