I do not have a lot of money to buy expensive manipulatives. I live in a rural community and am the only ABE/GED/ESL instructor for over 70 miles in any direction. No support group. I am not already working with the EFF framework but am learning more about it in my role as an ABE/GED instructor and will be incorporating it into my course curriculum as I learn how. I do have some of the EFF materials and standards document and I am becoming more familiar with the concept. I would like to develop self directed learning stations beginning with math, that include manipulatives that incorporate the different learning styles and comply with the new standards." What ideas, strategies and insights can you share with Aileen? I know other practitioners in similar situations who are asking the same kinds of questions; folks have told me it's especially difficult knowing where to begin and how to plan instruction using EFF. Does anyone have a form or approach to share that clearly explains how parts of the framework are used as a context for teaching with the standards? Does anyone have any experience using the six components of performance for the standard Use Math to Solve Problems and Communicate? And what about setting up learning stations? I've recommended the numeracy discussion list to Aileen for access to inexpensive math materials so let's please keep focused on EFF and learning how to use the EFF standards -- beginning with the math standard. Thanks for your input, Ronna Ronna Spacone NIFL-4EFF Discussion List Facilitator Rgspacone@aol.com Phone: 202.338.2703
