NIFL-4EFF Colleagues:

I am looking for a small group of practitioners (6-8) who would like to be
part of a 4EFF Book Group. The 4EFF Book Group would meet here, on the
NIFL-4EFF list, every 4-6 weeks to discuss selections from the EFF Content
Standards book, published Jan 2000. The purpose of the group would be to
discuss the EFF Content Standards; the discussion would be rooted in
dialogue; the dialogue would center around the content of the book as it
relates to our teaching practices. I've never participated in an online
learning book group, but I'm fascinated by the idea and would like to see
what happens by starting one this Fall.

Basically, here's how I think the 4EFF Book Group would work: Members of the
group would agree to participate for three consecutive book group meetings
(or three reading selections). I imagine the length of each reading selection
will be modest as will our postings to the discussion list. I would
coordinate the efforts and facilitate the group, and as necessary provide
support to guide the dialogue. But - I hope, through reading, we will find
our own questions to pursue through writing and dialogue online. Members of
the group would agree to particpate in the discussion and post their thoughts
to the list at the assigned meeting times.

Please do not "reply" to this email message (the listserver will return it to
everyone on the list.) E-mail me at: <rgspacone@aol.com> to join the 4EFF
Book Group. Please respond to me by Sept. 4th, and include the following
information:

1.Name; program affiliation and position; mailing address and phone number.
2. What you hope to gain from being in an online EFF book group.
3. Any expectations you have for the group.
4. What section(s) of the EFF Content Standards document you'd like to focus
on first.
5. Other questions or comments.

Please respond by Sept 4th.

Thanks,

Ronna
