Our overarching goal continues to be the integration and automatic implementation of the Framework into all aspects of the program...not to tall an order, eh? We are trying to do it bit by bit, helping staff who are not as comfortable with the Framework experience how they fit it and it fits them in their personal and professional lives. I don't know what will be new and different; perhaps the more direct presentation of EFF to a variety of audiences (I begin with the County K-12 Superintendents next week) In answer to the more specific *'s below... > > *Using the EFF Framework to communicate with staff, students, and community > members about the goals and purposes of education, and the relationship > between what people know and what they can do. > We continue to use our Program Role Map to communicate about what we are doing and how we are doing it. We will probably dedicate at least one of our monthly staff get togethers around a review and assessment of where we are as a program. > *Using the Framework to create and take advantage of opportunities for > students to develop and practice skills they need to carry out activities and > accomplish purposes in their lives. > By providing the Framework to the students during intake (thanks again to Meta for her wonderful e-mail of the other day that so clearly put the what and how of accessing the framework with students for us all!!!) and having them articulate their goals, we can brainstorm with them as to the skills and activities that will best suit their current needs. > * Using the standards and the role maps as tools to help students weave > together planned and found lessons. > Pretty much ditto the above response! > * Using the EFF Framework to construct lessons and learning activities that > build on students' prior knowledge and help them develop more complex ways of > understanding their experience and planning for the future. This is such an exciting part of EFF, not only looking at the Standards to see the components of performance, but to see how lessons and activities can overlap, interact, and move in directions not even thought of. It's especially gratifying when the student is involved and getting a personal picture of the what, why, and how of education! > > *Using the EFF standards to begin to develop assessment tools that monitor > and document progress toward goals. > We use the Standards and our rubrics to develop formal and informal assessments. We begin to carry them around internally, almost, which makes them an integral and almost automatic part of our best practices. We would be very interested to hear how other programs are planning to implement EFF, and if anything mentioned above needs clarification, please contact me through the listserve or direclty to my e-mail. Using EFF reminds me of when my kids were little and we would play with blocks, or a little older and we would play with those plastic snap together ones; we'd put all the pieces out in front of us and consider the possibilities! EFF is a tool that also has many possibilities, and even when we haven't used it *just right* we still learn a lot from it.
