The ERIC Clearinghouse on Adult, Career, and Vocational Education has just produced a new ERIC Digest, which you can request by e-mail. Send your request to ericacve@postbox.acs.ohio-state.edu

"Change: Connections to Adult Learning and Education" (221) by Susan Imel, explores the question of how adult learning and education can cultivate change with individuals and groups. Following a discussion of the change process, "Change" examines the connections between change and adult learning and adult education, and it concludes with some suggestions for adult educators involved in the change process. The author writes, "Adult educators frequently act as change agents. An understanding of the connection between adult education theory and practice and the role of change can be helpful." I think this is especially true if you're using the EFF standards and working to reform the adult literacy system.

I liked this Digest a lot. "Change" related to Don Finn's recent question about EFF concepts and theories in Adult Education; it discusses transformation theory and a purposeful view of learning. I thought it had implications for classroom instruction and staff development. I would like to propose we discuss this ERIC Digest on 4EFF in early December. I'll post some questions shortly after Dec 1 to get us started.

"Change" is available at no charge via e-mail and in paper copy. To request a copy, send a message to ericacve@postbox.acs.ohio-state.edu. If you are requesting a paper copy, please be sure to include your mailing address. Again, send requests to ericacve@postbox.acs.ohio-state.edu -- please do not "reply" to the discussion list.
