Our initial discussion, which covered the first part of Chapter 3, pages 17-55, was carried out in a private forum, but now we're ready, or at least willing ;-) to discuss pages 56-64, "Using the Standards to Assess Performance" in this public forum. Let me introduce the group's members: Debbie Tuler, Charlottesville VA, ESL Instructor and Coordinator Susan Rowley, ESL Specialist, Seattle WA Bonnie Odiorne, Waterbury CT, Director of Instruction, "Families Forward Through Technology" Jean Gassman, Spokane WA, Community Colleges of Spokane, "Families That Work" Instructor Patricia Cooper, Allentown PA, Adult Literacy Center of the Lehigh Valley Before they jumped into the second reading assignment, I asked everyone in the group to read using the EFF Content Standard "Read with Understanding", including the components of performance. Here's how we've structured this discussion: My next message to the list will contain the discussion questions, which the book group has already received. Debbie is scheduled to respond first, followed by Susan, Bonnie, Jean, and Patricia. Debbie will respond approximately 48 hrs. after my posting, and the others will follow suit. We aim to keep the length of our postings to under a page. With the exception of Debbie (because she's first) everyone will respond to the discussion questions as well as to, at least, one person's comments before them. After Patricia's posting, I will post a summary that I hope will begin a larger discussion among us about using the EFF Standards to assess performance and the content of Chapter 3 in the book, The EFF Content Standards".
