We want to make sure that all welfare clients know about us (a needs assessment showed that knowledge of our free programs is limited). A weekly presentation to new TANIF clients is not bringing in new students. So, we are thinking of opening a "help" center at the welfare office. We will help fill out forms, etc. giving mini-lessons, teaching some basic skills, and trying to encourage possible students to sign up for more formal tutoring. Aside from using EFF to prepare the tutors, and having the skills wheel, etc. on hand, how could we use EFF most effectively in this situation? We may only see these folks once or twice, but we'd like to make those occasions as profitable as possible for both the students and the tutors. What are your feelings about the whole concept of drop-in help? Pat Johnston LVA in Burlington County, New Jersey PJohns9662@aol.com
