In California, Proposition 36, a new drug treatment program for non-violent first and second time drug offenders, will bring our County money earmarked for literacy services and also a lot of potential learners. If we are selected to provide those services, I would use the role maps and the skills wheel to reflect on the activities that you described. This process could have the effect of attracting new learners as they see a quick success. We are also considering going into some homeless shelters to offer our services, and these ideas might be very effective there as well. I hope we have the opportunity to test these ideas. Ellen Loebl The Reading Program Santa Clara County Library 40 N.
