I whole-heartedly support the practice of looking to the standards for
guidance. I have found them to be accessible and applicable to our
students, staff, and to our program as a whole. Just as good teachers are
good learners, students themselves become teachers to the staff they work
with, their families, friends, and coworkers.

When I am wearing my administrator's hat I use the standards to guide such
things as how I conduct meetings (or participate in them),deciding what
the most effective routes might be for publicizing our services, ways in
which I communicate our successes and needs as a program, and so on. It
never ends, and it is never something just for the students.

Equipped for the Future is, to borrow a well-known phrase from A. Lincoln,
"Of the people, by the people, and for the people," and that means all of
us, regardless of our role(s).

Bonnie
