I have just returned from a two day workshop in Richmond, Virginia,
led by Lisa Levinson. I have been involved in other EFF training, but
his one made a difference as I had my "light bulb" experience.
For the first time I was told to use the standards on something that
I am dealing with in my own personal life. Suddenly all of the EFF
vocabulary words and intellectual ideas took on new meaning as I applied
them to something very concrete to me. Up until now I was trying
(unsuccessfully) to understand how to explain EFF to someone else. Now I
saw how it applies to me, and I can transfer that understanding on to
someone else!
I am very interested in Eileen Eckert's comments about helping
teachers develop a role map for the ABE/GED teacher. She is right on
target in her approach of helping teachers experience their own "light
bulb" experience. I hope to use EFF as a staff development tool first
before we ever introduce it into the classroom. As we internalize the
process in our own experiences, it is my hope that my region's teachers
will be able to transfer their knowledge of EFF on to their students in
the classroom.
