I think that this has been a good discussion on what it takes to understand
and implement EFF. I think it also has been a good discussion on what it
takes for all of us to internalize new ideas and learning.

As Andy Nash has stated in an earlier posting, we at the National Center have
been working to understand what would be most helpful to teachers,
administrators and students to implement EFF. But I agree with those of us
who have stated that it is not a matter of a one shot workshop, nor is it a
matter of many unrelated workshops. The question, to me, is how do we work
with all of you in an intentional way so you can build your knowledge base,
range, independence and fluency to use EFF. Many workshops that don't build
on your own experience and learning (is not constructivist) will not help.
One workshop that can't be contextual or purposeful will not help. And we
know the one shot model doesn't work.

So, how do we model an EFF approach to staff development that meets all
ofyour needs and gets you started using the standards? The standards are the
basis of what is taught to enable adults to perform the activities in the
role maps and achieve the four purposes. And, how do we help speed up system
reform so that teachers and administrators and students have time to meet,
think, reflect, document and then rethink? Replan?

I have been using our standard plan to think about this, and to frame what we
do. Can I ask those of you who have voiced your frustration with EFF, and I
understand it, to use this standard and post a plan for EFF staff development
that would get you started? Continue to help you work with EFF? You know
best what will work. Those ofyou who have been working with EFF, what got
you started? What did you do or attend to continue your EFF understanding?
Some of you have already shared this, but could you frame your learning
around building your knowledge base, fluency, range and independence (the
four dimensions?)

Let's have a discussion about our own learning using the EFF framework to see
how it works for us. Perhaps that will help the EFF National Center be able
to respond to your needs and clarify the framework.

I look forward to this discussion.
