The most recent issue has an excellent article "Taking literacy skills home" written by Victoria Purcell-Gates, Sophie Degener, Erik Jacobson, & Marta Soler. Victoria Purcell-Gates' work has informed my practice since reading her book, Other People's Words. As a parent educator for PAT, as a family literacy specialist providing technical assistance to Even Start programs and now as a novice trainer for Equipped For the Future, her research validates my intuitive actions. Every adult educator and family literacy practitioner needs to read this. You can read it on line at http://ncsall.gse.harvard.edu While there, you might browse through the archives of past issues of Focus. I am particularly fond of an article from March 1998 by Quigley about retention. -- Sarah Beaman-Jones Family Literacy Specialist LIFT-Missouri 500 Northwest Plaza, Suite 601 St. Louis, MO 63047 1-800-729-4443 http://lift-missouri.org
