Ronna Spacone _______________________________________________________________________________ I have finally had time to sit down and reread all of the recent postings. I'd like to respond to Lisa's questions regarding using the framework to discuss our own learning. This may not be exactly what she was looking for, but this is where it took me. I first started looking at EFF at the LVA conference in 1998. The minute I heard the philosophy behind EFF I turned to my coworker and said, "This is Exciting!" What have I done since then? I took responsibility for my learning. This was very new. How was I going to find out more? This led me to learn through research. I collected and sifted through as much information about EFF as I could find. Much of this information I obtained by using information and communication technology. Ok...now it's time to pause, reflect and evaluate. What seems useful to me and my program? What makes sense and what doesn't? What would I like to share with my staff, tutors, and learners? It was time to make decisions regarding implementation of the EFF framework into my program. I now had to plan how I would go about implementing EFF and increasing my knowledge. The cycle began again. I'm thinking that I won't bore you with all of the communication and interpersonal skills I've used along the way. When I look at this I wonder if the real question is: How can we create the spark, in those we hope to influence, which drives a person to take responsibility for their learning ? It seems to me that each person must be responsible for building their knowledge base and increasing their fluency, range, and independence. What do you think?
