Millie, I've taught incarcerated students, and many of our ESL students are not U.S. citizens, and will never be, for various reasons. They are, though, all a part of a "community," with commonalities. It sounds as though you are doing a great job at community building within your classroom, and creating a "safe place" for your students [Community Members] to learn and express themselves in new ways.
