A program can be purposeful and take a research-based approach to instruction and assessment without sing EFF. However, because EFF tools have been explicitly constructed to facilitate these practices, they make it easier for teachers and programs to more intentionally and systematically create the kinds of learning opportunities that equip adults for the future" (p. 2) I find that to be eminently reasonable and respectful of the pluralism that permeates the field. Such an inclusive attitude also allows space for EFF developers to better highlight the many contributions to instruction and assessment that the framework provides, without any underlying assumption that its way is the only way or even necessarily the best way. This space opens up much room for fruitful dialogue. Results That Matter also refers to a forthcoming monograph by Marilyn Gillespie, titled Equipped for the Future: Research to Practice Notes, will offer a more extensive discussion of the research and theory underlying EFF that is more briefly spelled out in Results That Matter. I very much look forward to studying Marilyn's document when it hits the presses. Notwithstanding certain critical (though generally tempered) commentary that I have made from time to time about aspects of EFF (and I continue to hold certain concerns), let me say how much I also respect the hard work, the collective intelligence and wisdom, and the persistence among the EFF developers in moving forward these past 7 years in a political and social environment that is not particularly conducive to a framework built upon strong constructivist assumptions. Any criticisms made are intended as part of a broader dialogue that needs to continue within the center of the EFF community itself, around its peripheries, and with and among those outside its perimeters.
