Since becoming involved with EFF as an ESL Teacher and now as a =
facilitator and technical assistant for the assesment project, I am =
continually being encouraged by what I see happening in EFF classrooms =
all across the country. So, what's my definition of an "EFF classroom"? =
Usually EFF is a very evolutionary type of process- it happens step by =
step as we understand more about the program practices and the parts of =
the framework and how they can really affect our teaching and learning. =

So, an EFF classroom might be one where the teaching and learning is =
intentionally purposeful (has meaning for the learner-learner centered), =
contextual (learners learn and practice skills in real life contexts), =
and constructivist (learners reflect on prior knowledge to build new =
knowledge and understanding). The EFF framework then provides us with =
the tools to carry out those practices.
What I have observed in classrooms where this is happening is:
1. Students are coming to class more consistantly because they see that =
the time spent there is meeting their needs.
2. Teachers are more motivated because the students are engaged and =
taking responsibility for their learning.
3. Teachers are talking more with other teachers sharing ideas, =
challenges and friendships.
4. Increased vision and unity in programs, resulting in desired =
outcomes.
5. "Alive" classrooms contribute to "alive" programs and life reproduces =
life!!!
