Two of our students are getting close to graduation. They & I have begun to discuss the relevance of the things they have learned in their work here & how this might apply to future jobs. We have addressed specific skills & how they can be used in any job. We'll further explore use of these skills in various work scenarios. We've also discussed how to "convey in writing" what they have done at work in order to create a strong resume'. As they identify the relevance between the skills they use now & what they might be doing in a work environment after graduation, they've been able to pinpoint specific skills they would like to learn before then. I've been integrating their learning needs w/the work we are doing at the Center. It's wonderful to see the increase in the students' confidence in their ability to compete for a good job. This makes their work experience during their formal education a valuable teaching/learning tool instead of "just a job".
