RGS **************************************************************************** *** Hi Maria, To piggyback on Barbara Dorsett's suggestion here are some resources/links on the EFF website that I hope are helpful: The spring 2001 issue of the EFF HOT Topics newsletter focuses on strategies for goal setting that use the EFF framework. The spring 2002 HOT Topics (which focuses on the teaching learning cycle) gives an example from a beginning ESL class. Both newsletters are in EFF Products and Publications at:http://www.nifl.gov/lincs/collections/eff/eff_publications.html#Publicati ons. In the EFF Content Standards section of the website http://www.nifl.gov/lincs/collections/eff/eff_standards.html (for each of the 16 standards) there are teachers' reflections and descriptions of how they used the standards in the field research and development, 1998-99. No, there isn't nearly enough on the EFF website in the way of sample activities/materials, but we are working to change this. For example, an EFF Teaching and Learning Tool Kit is being developed to provide resources (tools, examples, guidance) to help the field implement EFF. Also in the works -- is a series of teaching/learning activities based on different standards. We'll announce when these new EFF products become available via the LINCS network. Other EFF resources currently available are the NIFL-4EFF archives and the EFF discussion list. Maria, I'd be happy to cross- post your questions to the NIFL-4EFF list to see what suggestions/ideas our subscribers have. (I'm the moderator). They are doing the types of things you've asked about. Questions like yours about goal-setting and using the EFF Framework in a volunteer tutor setting have been raised on the EFF list before. In fact, over the years, I think there's been some good postings on these subjects. Therefore, another way to find ideas would be to search through the EFF archives, 1997-2001. To do that - go to: http://www.nifl.gov/cgi-bin/list_search/archive_search.pl?foureff. (By the way, there are two ways to see how/if the NIFL-4EFF list subscribers respond to my cross posting of your NIFL-ESL:7821. View the NIFL-4EFF messages in the archives at: http://www.nifl.gov/nifl-4eff/2002/.ou or subscribe to the discussion at: http://www.nifl.gov/lincs/discussions/subscribe_all.html and join in the discussion there too.) Ronna Ronna G. Spacone EFF Special Collection Coordinator/NIFL-4EFF Moderator (202) 233-8767 Ronna.Spacone@ed.gov Does anyone know of materials suggestions to teach the Equipped for the Future framework? I'd like to implement using EFF frameworks for goal setting and want to tie that in with suggestions for tutors as far as materials go. Some of the EFF objectives are fairly abstract, such as "Work within the Big Picture" and "Develop Sense of Self". How can I help volunteer tutors interpret these, identify teaching objectives and create lessons? Anyone doing this? Maria Spelleri Literacy Council of Sarasota, FL mariasp@peoplepc.com
