Folks,

I just received a notice about a new issue of the Change Agent, which is
published by the New England Literacy Resource Center here at World
Education. This gives me an opportunity to remind this list that the Change
Agent Web site, which is updated with every new issues, is a nice online
resource for teachers interested in social justice issues, community life,
and civic participation.

A few lessons based on previous issues are posted on the site, and you can
also download PDF files of back issues.

There's also a call for articles for the _next_ issue, which will focused on
"Language and Power" -- "the ways in which we speak, read, and write (what
languages we speak, how we use and understand words, how others speak to us,
etc.) can include certain people but leave others out."

Here is more info about the latest issue (for more info contact Angela
Orlando at aorlando@worlded.org):

The Change Agent announces the publication of an issue on Creativity and
Change This 24-page educational newspaper provides information and classroom
activities on social justice issues, community life and civic participation.

In our Creativity and Change issue you can:

- Read about adult learners who went from viewers to exhibitors at a local
art gallery
- Learn how to make provocative zipper sculptures with your students as a
tool for critical reflection
- Try out activities that unleash humor and creativity in the classroom
- Use a reading about how people have used quilting to organize and speak
their mind

Over 30 articles and activities link adult education to topics like creative
teaching, visual arts, theater, mask-making, music, film, folk art and
others.

Change Agent topics are explored through of a variety of writing styles,
graphics and classroom tools that provide many entry points for learners at
different levels. You¹ll also find print, video and web resources for
further exploration of the topic. Each Change Agent issue hones in on a
different topic that is relevant to adult learners¹ lives.

The Change Agent is designed for use in intermediate-level ESOL, ABE, GED
and adult diploma classes. To read the PDF web version and to subscribe go
to http://www.nelrc.org/changeagent. Two issues per year for $7.
