Professional development can be guided by leaders, tied to standards and
learning goals, built around...improvement plans. But the engine that drives
it all, ultimately, is each individual's commitment to
self-reflection and self-improvement. Journal of Staff Development, spring
2002

Here is proof of such commitment.

The spring edition of the Maine Fertilizer contains an article by Diane
Gardner, EFF Professional Development and Certification Coordinator at the
EFF Center for Training and Technical Assistance at the University of
Tennessee, Center for Literacy Studies, in which she recognized the first
three EFF Facilitators who have achieved state certified status. They are
Evelyn Beaulieu, the Director of the Center for Adult Learning and Literacy
(CALL); Carolyn Beiers, Project Manager of two statewide EFF Even Start
Projects in South Carolina; and Nancy Sledd, Family Literacy Training
Specialist for the National Center for Family Literacy.

These three facilitators submitted portfolios that included documentation of
their training and staff development activities, including participation in a
broad range of activities. They have made a significant commitment to study
and apply EFF principles and practice in their professional practice.

Participants on this list may have questions for these three ladies,
including *Was is worth it?* :)

They are willing to reply on this list. Evelyn will be at COABE and is
willing to talk with people there about her experience.
