The document, Transactional Stategies by Pressley and others is a quick two page overview that can be equally valuable for teacher development. Comments on Reading for Understanding: Toward an R & D Program in Reading Instruction is a more in depth 7 pager that contains a lot of food for thought. In addition, you will also find a much more extensive (45 pages, with references) paper that was commisioned by the National Reading Conference titled Effective Reading Instruction. It includes a 2 page Executive Summary. This paper raises a lot of critical issues about the National Reading Panel as well as containing a lot of good information about reading instruction.
