CAAL is the Council for Advancement of Adult Literacy

>From time to time, CAAL publishes papers on important, timely topics in adult
education and literacy. They range from essays to information bulletins to
research reports to issue briefs. They aim, as part of CAAL's total program, to
improve understanding of adult education and literacy, to help inform future
planning at the state and federal levels, and to serve as tools for the
advocacy and research work of others. Please see the blurb on an EFF publication
below.

Except as noted, CAAL's publications may be freely reproduced and quoted with
attribution. Here, they are in the form of PDF files and optimized for
printing.

Equipped for the Future: Tools & Standards for Building & Assessing Quality
Adult Literacy Programs -- 33 pp. -- is written by Gail Spangenberg and Sarah
Watson. The publication reviews the developmental history of EFF, a major
program of the National Institute for Literacy, and discusses its accomplishments,
implementation, and work in progress. Some 16 experienced national, state, and
local EFF users were interviewed for the publication. Their responses and the
questions posed make up the main body of the new work. In a Foreword, it is
noted that: "This publication tells a remarkable story, about Equipped for the
Future -- a singularly important resource developed by the National Institute
for Literacy that can be tremendously beneficial to states wanting to improve
the effectiveness of their adult literacy services."

Gail and Sarah would like to know how this publication has helped you in your
work with EFF or how it has served to inform you.

Please respond to the List. We would all be interested.

All the Best
