Brenda:

Perhaps I missed what the Congress finally did with the reauthorization of WIA, but has government funding for EFF been stopped, finally and officially? And how will this affect the EFF Assessment Project now that they are completing review of their reading tasks, and now that the feds are stating that we all must use standardized tests?

Jeannette and Bonnie (and others),

EFF is committed to a long and healthy future! The EFF Center for Training
and Technical Assistance, located here at the Center for Literacy Studies,
does not have any plans to reduce our work after the formal NIFL funding
ends in 2004. We are engaged in securing additional sources of funding and
want to work with states and organizations to find mutually beneficial ways
of continuing the work of implementing EFF.

We will continue to work with states like Maine, where you live, whose
fiscal realities have meant a change in staffing. EFF staff will
participate in the Maine Summer Institute in a few weeks -- and we know
that our partners in Maine remain solidly supportive of EFF and are
planning to continue to integrate EFF into professional development
opportunities in the state.

Thank you for your support and for raising these concerns!
