Dear Tom,

Thanks very much for the citation, it agrees with work done on childen's reading and writing, and how children start to separate words from pictures.

I have heard Reid Lyon speak 3 times, now. Opinion about his work is divided on the NIFL list servs, and on the work of researchers he supports. I got tired to pointing out the utility of what he says to those who want to argue other points, so I stopped, so thanks for presenting this material.

In general I have noticed that these discussions get polarized quickly and it is unnecesary; "valid information" should be the goal. I may have calmed down, myself, on one or two points, but if the evidence is there, let's have it, absent the cant if possible.

Andrea
