Less than 5% of the members answered, but their replies were thoughtful, instructive, and very much appreciated. As I analyzed them, I was struck by the fit with the EFF Four Purposes. First of all, these list members said that they wanted •to be informed; •to find out everything I can about EFF and progress toward Standard-based reform; •to be sure that I am updated on EFF events and activities; •to get information about practical applications of EFF principles and materials; •need good literacy information; to keep updated on developments in research and practice; •to remain abreast of the latest best practices; •to know what is happening; I joined to learn everything I can about how to implement the EFF framework in my teaching; and finally, •it’s a chance to learn all I can about the EFF Framework and its applications as I am learning from research. Then, the responders to the question said that they wanted to have a voice, •seeking and finding an open door for real dialogue; • reaching out to others for input and reaction; •to have a chance to express my thoughts and feelings. Several people said that they joined the list to find out how to enhance their work—to make informed decisions. And a couple of people see the 4-EFF List as a bridge to the future—•It seems to be a much more flexible frame through which to view the complex tasks and skills issues of adult lifelong learners. I hope the assessment piece will give credibility to what is already a great way to develop curricula and plan lessons, going beyond skills or competencies. So, there it is. And even though the number of messages on the 4-EFF list has decreased over the last year, I hope the interest has not. Many of you said that you read everything and appreciate the wise counsel, the generous responses to questions, the thought-provoking postings. So do I. All the Best, Meta Potts, Moderator, 4-EFF List FOCUS on Literacy Glen Allen, Virginia
