In California our learners currently have the opportunity to connect in many ways to the Citizen Role Map. With our budget debacle and current recall election of our governor, our learners will have the opportunity to weigh in on these important decisions by electing a governor. In our program we will encourage our learners and our tutors to join the process if they haven't already done so. In order to be part of the process they will have to register to vote, research the candidates and what they stand for, sift through information in print, on TV and on the radio that may have a bias, choose their candidate, and then vote on election day. In order to do that they will be connecting with each of the Broad Areas of Responsibility by recognizing that they can make a difference, reflecting on their own opinions and ideas, participating in the group decision-making process and influencing and holding decision makers accountable. Research tools will include the citizen role map and the website www.easyvoter.org. Our volunteer tutors will be a vital link in assisting learners to determine whether they want to participate, and if so, how to participate. Ellen Loebl Assoc.
