In response to your questions, because we begin with student goals we use 
the curriculum to guide us to activities to help the student reach their 
goals rather than insert curriculum.  When you begin with the student you 
look at the curriculum in a different way.  It becomes a set of knowledges, 
skills, and concepts that will enable the student to get where he wants to 
go.  It's not a matter of following a curriculum guide, but using the 
curriculum as tools to achieve the goals.
