Colleagues,

Following are some notes on reading research from Catherine B King.

Schema: idiosyncratic abstract networks of knowledge, information, and
experience individuals use to structure their memories and interpret new knowledge,
information,
and experience. (Roe, Stoodt, & Burns, 1995, p. 67).

Competent reading is an active process in which the reader calls
upon.schemata.to anticipate and understand the author's written language" (Roe, et al.,
1995, p. 4). Thus, as Roe et al. (1995) state, "good readers both bring meaning
to print and take meaning from print" (p. 4).

Reading Instruction. (5th ed.). Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company.

Constructivist Classrooms. Alexandria, VA: Association for Supervision and
Curriculum Development.

Model. Hillsdale, NJ: Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Inc.

Thanks to Catherine.
