Colleagues,

When we were conducting the research to establish the Broad Areas of
Responsibility and the Key Activities on the EFF Role Maps, a recurring topic
surfaced in the area of the parent/family member role, that of safety. After
several iterations, the topic appears in final form on the Parent/Family Role Map
in the BAR--Meet Family Needs and Responsibilities--and in the Key
Activity--Provide for Safety and Physical Needs.

Perhaps this topic will serve you and your students as a shared priority in
the Teaching and Learning Cycle. As you select an EFF Standard that will help
the group address this shared goal, you may consider Read With
Understanding. A Learning Activity to help you address the real life concerns of the
learners could be the identification of ways to keep children safe in schools.

Below is a possible lead. From the Pen Weekly Newsblast 9-17-04.

All the Best,

Meta Potts, Moderator 4-EFF
