Thanks!) Hi Jackie, I hope what I am trying to say is we can not devalue one group over another. Not even in the effort to empower the "disenfranchised". The white male scientists that were referred to in the prelim discussion seemed as if there approach to the world was denigrated by the author. I think in adult ed situations whether it is one or one or in a group we need to respect everyone (yes, even the white males) understanding their values and motivations as much as people of color and from cultures different than our own. If that means stopping and saying I feel uncomfortable with what's happening ( I think Cassandra said she felt like her credibility was constantly being questioned) and it may not be helping us learn as a group then that is what needs to occur. Is there a difference in facilitating, teaching and educating? You bet. Are there literacy issues in how we communicate with each other either through words, nonverbal communication or graphic representations. You bet. I don't know if this answers your question but it is my shot for first thing Mon morning :)
