I would like to create a new online format for a relatively old workshop
activity with which most everyone in on this discussion is familiar.

You know those activities where we list the "pluses" and "challenges"
regarding any teachable topic? Well, let's imagine this email is a large,
white piece of flip chart paper. By going thru the three simple steps
below,
we can compile our challenges to addressing "isms" in staff development.
For
example, the challenge might be how to model anti-ism practices, or how to
address the ism directly, as in a staff development event.

Three Steps:
A. Copy the body of this ENTIRE email message and paste it into a new
message.
(This will keep the electronic "flipchart" paper cleaner than hitting
"reply.")

B. In 2-3 sentences, succinctly phrase your challenge to addressing "isms"
in
staff development, number it, and add it to the bottom of the existing list
of
challenges.

C. Copy the subject line of this email into the subject line of your new
message, and send it to the list.

****List Of Challenges****

1. how interested and "open" are teachers, administrators, et al. in having
their preconceived conventions challenged? Barbara Salice

2. Competing for dollars to fund anti-ism staff development events - Susan
Joyner

3. Operating as a change agent (agency) in a prevailing political climate
that is intensely conservative.

4. Allocating time for staff development in an already jammed-packed
schedule.
