Hello everyone!
This has really been a rich week and a half of discussion around isms and
diversity! I hope many of you have gathered some ideas and insights that can
be incorporated into staff development events, program design, and more.

For those of you recently subscribed to AALPD, you may have noticed that we
are nearing the end of an online event discussing the role of race, class,
gender, and sexuality in adult literacy professional development. To honor
Barbara's request and the purpose of the AALPD list, when thinking about
teaching strategies and isms, I'd like to encourage us to think also in terms
of what it means in professional development and in program design, as
exampled by many, including Sally, Andy, Cris, Lindsay, Susan, Margery, and
others.

I wanted to encourage those of you who would like to continue discussing isms
in the broader context of teaching practices, interpersonal meanings, and
more, to also consider joining the POVRACLIT list. In that forum, a wide
range of practitioners are interested in dialogue on any aspect of isms in
literacy. Also, for those of you who enjoyed Focus on Basics, you may wish to
consider subscribing to the FOB discussion list to discuss articles from any
issue.

To subscribe to either or both lists, visit:

http://www.nifl.gov/lincs/discussions/discussions.html

I look forward to our continued discussion exploring the 'isms' & PD.

Thanks!
