Colleagues,

I don't know how Jonathan Swift was received in his day, an interesting study.

I took Eileen's final sentence as a misguided attempt at humor. I took it in the context of her post, following some writing which seemed very straightforward.

One sentence linked god, bush and moron.

What this sentence has to do with anything else, even as satire, I can't fathom.

Anyone who wants to discuss a deity or deities in any fashion, or intelligence the same, I am not standing in their way or objecting. I applaud their daring.

As to whether this is a secular, meaning non-religious, country, I don't think it is. I think it is in the main a secular Protestant culture and country, at this point the Protestant ethos in government is toward the evangelical end of Protestantism.

Lots of room for discussion here.

Andrea
