As I argued many times, the model that only explores decoding of sounds doesn't address the needs of the learners. Therefore, we need to explore models of adult education that explore meanings carried by language in context and how meaning enters into the classroom. Currently, the US is going to a certain political reality that affects us all. This is manifested in the literature that we experience daily, in the literacy practices of a community and in the funding avaliable to offer adult education. If you are really interested in current practices and future trends, you need to engage these issues and understand how they affect your practice. You may not be interested in these discussions and may not want to participate, which is ok. However, they do deal with current practices and future trends.
