The Civil War battle scenes and prison camp scenes advance the story, indeed, a battle cemetery is the place where the bags of gold are found. Research without context is impossible--mystery without a body. History--what is the history of research round this topic? Who did it? What were the results? Why is this topic being studied, anyway? (Bleeds into context.) In my experience, "context" is often (not always) left out of the research report. Why is this research being done at this time? "History" is mandatory--what has been done previously, and can seem tedious to get through especially if you want to cut to the chase. So in language studies Chomsky is often mentioned. Andrea
