I agree that sharing among colleagues and new ideas from outside one's
program are essential for keeping one's enthusiasm for teaching.
Professional development must be on-going.

Jackie and all,

With due respect to the 'situation' at NIFL and of the constraints we
understand around this list, you do realize that it can't be surprising that
policy discussions related to PD would be sparse on this list .  I
appreciate your prompt for us to vision what professional development could
and should be.

Leadership would work to include provision for support (funding, time,
resources) for practitioners (teachers, program administrators) to build
cultures and communities of learning and of respect for one another's
knowledge and for the notion that we all are committing to further learning
and improvement of our practice in service to improving learning
opportunities for adults.
