I agree witht everything you say. I responded the way I did, because of the new climate in education. I am a big advocate of professional development and we do a lot of it in our program. There are a lot of terriffic outcomes from it. In fact, we just conducted one to make teachers aware of the new GED changes. The teachers loved the workshops and gave us great feedback.

One of the things that I've tried to create is an environment where people are happy to come to work every morning. I think that people have sucky lives already and part of my responsibility as an educator, community person is to try to create spaces that people enjoy being part of. I want people to wake up in the morning happy cause they are going to a fun place.

The professional development that we do is in part to create an environment like this and to build community. I think that because of this, our program does very well, and people are devoted to their work. We pay very little. So sometimes teachers go to work in other programs where they make more $$$$. None of them are wealthy. Many of them come back to work with us at a great financial cost.

The problem with all this is that some people want unquestionable proof that prof. development = quatifiable results.
