Hello Everyone,
Thank you, Catherine, for clarifying what you mean. And to build upon that,
there are two issues. List guidelines, and how the community here chooses to
interact with one another - our unspoken culture, if you will. It is my
understanding that the former is NIFL's concern; the latter is what I
interpret Varshna (and perhaps others) to mean.

Please, keep challenging, share your dissent, build common ground, offer a
variety of perspectives, have dialogue or debate, but NIFL has asked me to ask
you to not make it personal. That's all. And on the second matter, it's
always difficult to portray tone via cyberspace. Maybe some of you have
suggestions as to how, in online PD, that you encourage teachers to express
tone?

Thanks!
Jackie

>In response to Jackie and my own recent note--mine was not meant
>as a personal attack on Mr. Sweet. Rather, it was a warning to the
>person who asked question to watch for writings and policy coming
>consistently from very arguable positions, as was the recent quotation
>noted here and attributed to Mr. Sweet.

>Also, I would expect Mr. Sweet, or anyone here, to do the same for me.
>That is, if I am ignorant of something, please let me know and I will
>endeavor to question my own positions on the matter. As you all know,
>that's the only way such ignorance can be cured--through dialogue and
>challenging others' positions, as the prior note from Andres did. And

>in a democracy.

>Also, we are all guilty of ignorance, and unless Mr. Sweet knows
>everything about everything, he is no exception. My guess is, he has
>developed a pretty thick skin, as anyone should who is in such a
>controversial public position. And as Socrates said, it's better to
>be disabused of my own bad positions than to have to disabuse
>someone else of theirs.

>Also, when critique of one's positions is misinterpreted as a personal

>that "It's rude to disagree." And this is a teacher of sixth graders who

>But then, it's dialogue that has come under attack from many who fail to
