The definition of whole language put forth by it's opponents focuses on a narrow definition decades old and does not take into account the model's pliability to adapt best practices, whether or not a particular interest group and zeitgiest sit outside my class and say, "Where's the research?" My students learn. You want proof, test them. I've never been intimidated by evaluation.
