First, we recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with COABE to be a member, formalizing the relationship we have had with them for almost four years, whereby we have held our national networking meetings as part of the COABE pre-conference sessions. If you haven't been to one of AALPD's pre-conference sessions at COABE, they are a great way to hear about and share information nationally with your professional development colleagues. For more information about the COABE conference, visit www.coabe04.org. For information about the AALPD pre-conference at COABE, contact Renee Sherman at <RSherman@air.org>. Second, AALPD applied and was accepted as a member of the National Coalition for Literacy (NCL), an organization that represents many national organizations in the field and that promotes adult literacy policy. As a member of the National Coalition for Literacy, we will have a representative at each quarterly meeting who can speak about the needs and interests of teachers and professional developers in our field. Related to this, the AALPD Executive Board has been working towards a draft of advocacy positions for adult literacy professional development. These would be a set of proposed policies that would support teachers to access professional development and would support the increase of professional development resources in our field. Look for more information and a request for your ideas and opinions about professional development policies on future listserv postings. Thank you, Cristine Smith, Chair Jackie Taylor, Vice-Chair Association of Adult Literacy Professional Developers
