FYI: Some of us ESL people will be attending the TESOL conference in Long Beach, California next week so I will contribute now. One of the sessions that I will be presenting at TESOL is called ESL/CivicsLink: Adult Educators Learning Online, Thursday April 1 from 2- 2:45 PM. ESL/CivicsLink, developed under an EL Civics demonstration grant from the US Department of Education, OVAE, (2000-2003) has just been launched to the public at http://www.pbs.org/civicslink . PBS and partners, NCAL, Jefferson County (KY) Public Schools and KLRN, created and field tested the site. KET:The Kentucky Network, part of the PBS system and home as well to PBS LiteracyLink, is managing and marketing ESL/CivicsLink now that the initial federal funding is over. ESL CivicsLink incorporates project based learning, online discussion, and teacher portfolios and addresses the following topics: Integrating Civics and English Literacy Teaching a Citizenship Class Cross-cultural Communication Meeting Learners' Needs and Goals Teaching Approaches in ESL Using Technology in the ESL Classroom It can be facilitated or not, however, a licensee has to provide a facilitator.
