Member responses identified three topics of importance to professional developers that they would like to explore at the conference. These topics also will be the content for looking at different ways of delivering professional development. The three topics are: -- Organizing and Monitoring Instruction for Improved Learning Gains: Helping practitioners to adjust instruction by analyzing learner outcomes. -- Reading Research and Instructional Strategies: Using reading research to develop instructional strategies to help adults improve their reading. -- Linking Theory and Research to Practice: Helping practitioners to understand and to use research to improve their teaching practice. We are looking for individuals who have developed or conducted innovative professional development activities to present on what they have done on one of these topics. We would like to have a variety of professional development activities presented (e.g., via technology, inquiry research, institutes, mentoring). We are hoping to draw on your experience and knowledge of the field to help us identify potential presenters. Presenters would be asked to make a 20 minute presentation and then open up discussion for questions and sharing among participants. Presenters should be planning to attend COABE. To make a suggestion for the pre-conference presentations please send an e-mail to Renee Sherman at <rsherman@air.org> by February 5, 2005. Please identify the activity, the topic, and contact information for the project. Thanks for your help! Renee Sherman and Sandra Fugate
