As you often do, Jere, you have put your finger on one of the most important challenges. We don't know the answer yet. We'll have to see how the adult literacy education community engages with and uses the ALE Wiki. So far, there seems to be a lot of curiosity and a few committed folks.. Several people have already agreed to be Discussion Area Leaders (Jackie Taylor, Marie Cora, Marian Thacher, Erik Jacobson, and me.) We have others who have expressed interest, for example in technology research and GED research. Others who may be interested in being Discussion Area Leaders can contact me. Discussion Area Leaders take responsibility for organizing/re-organizing/adding to their discussion area. They may add a bibliography or a glossary, summarize/update summaries of discussions, add messages from current or past discussions on e-lists, invite researchers to visit the discussion area to add comments or resources and engage in dialogue. It's a perfect role for someone interested in professional development and who has a passionate interest in a particular discussion area or question. It's an opportunity to organize -- for oneself and others -- all the research (since there usually isn't much in our field, not a huge task) and to help focus/re-focus the critical questions from practitioners, learners and researchers. It could be a lot of work -- but for the right person it's a labor of love, a way --- over time -- to build/rebuild knowledge in one area -- with the help and support of colleagues who share that passion. For those who may want to visit the ALE Wiki: http://wiki.literacytent.org All the best, David David J. Rosen djrosen1@comcast.net
