It's time to think about summer registration for family literacy
courses delivered by Penn State's World Campus. You can use the
online courses in the Certificate in Family Literacy
<www.worldcampus.psu.edu/pub/famlt/> as electives in your bachelor's
or master's degree programs. (You may select individual courses or
the entire Certificate.) This summer we are offering the
Introduction to Family Literacy (ADTED 497A) which explores the
4-component model of family literacy (adult literacy, parenting
education, early childhood education, and parent-child interactive
literacy). We are also offering Interactive Literacy: Parents and
Children (ADTED 497D) which studies the development of language and
literacy skills in young children with an emphasis on how
low-literate and non-English speaking parents can be enabled to help
their children. We are receiving many excellent comments about the
quality of our courses from our students. The Certificate in Family
Literacy was developed by the Goodling Institute for Research in
Family Literacy in partnership with the National Center for Family
Literacy. Classes begin on May 25 with an orientation period.
