Hello Mev:

Thank you so much for the list of readings regarding spirituality.

My own view is that, whereas the 20th century took things apart, the
present one has already begun to put things back together.

The problems with this are rife, but still the project is a part of
historical development and will go forward, well or not.

My own work is about providing the foundations for this 'messy'
movement with the hopes that it can be done well and that, when it
is, education and educators will know what we are supposed to be
doing, and will be better able to do it.

Also, a group of educators and myself are developing a related
website where I will refer to the works you have provided with
regard to relating secular education to the spiritual dimension
of adults.

In my view, even though we are doing a GREAT job with our
on-the-ground education in our programs, we are still overlooking
the WHOLE student and, thus, how literacy underpins the whole
development of all persons.

Regards,

Spirituality (as compared to religion) is an issue that has been
reappearing for the past year or so among practitioners in southeast
Massachusetts at SABES SE -- in fact, I have done a "retreat' and a
study circle for practitioners seeking to understanding the importance
of spirituality and ethical issues related to teaching. I would
recommend these materials:
New Directions for Adult & Continuing ed #85 - "Addressing the Spiritual
Dimensions of Adult Learning: What Educators Can Do"

The courage to teach: exploring the inner landscape of a teacher's life
- by Parker Palmer

Exploring Spirituality and Culture in Adult and Higher Education by
Elisabeth Tisdell
And her article in a special issue of Adult Learning Magazine (2003?)
subtitled Spirituality in Adult Education

Building Community for the 21st Century, Joan England, ERIC Digest
ED347489

Hope these references help.
