We have, in the past, offered PD to trainers via face-to-face and online workshops. We are currently revising this system so that we may offer more resouces to trainers in adult education, such as face-to-face and online versions of a Training of Trainers workshop, self-paced online courses focused on training skills, and an online toolkit with resources about adult education content (as well as basic literacy, ESL, learning disabilities, etc.) We are targeting January 1st as the launch date for the new system, but you can check out the existing system at www.proliteracy.org (go to the ProLiteracy America page, then select Trainer Certification). I agree that a trainers' strand at COABE would be worthwhile. We are also addressing these needs at ProLiteracy's Annual Conference in Tucson, October 26-29 [http://www.proliteracy.org/conference/] All the best, Jane Jane Greiner Training Coordinator ProLiteracy America ******************************************************************** jeff fantine <fantine@ohio.edu> Sent by: nifl-aalpd@nifl.gov 10/14/2005 01:27 PM Please respond to nifl-aalpd@nifl.gov To Multiple recipients of list <nifl-aalpd@literacy.nifl.gov> Subject[NIFL-AALPD:2302] Re: learning and PD To my knowledge, nothing exists for training of trainers in adult education, in terms of being good trainers, most of what exists for adult educators is related to adult education content. I would like to see a strand at the COABE conference specifically for trainers of adult educators (for ABE resource center staff) that would address effective PD practices - or maybe a separate conference effort. -J Jeff Fantine Director, Literacy Center College of Education Ohio University 338 McCracken Hall Athens, OH 45701 800-753-1519 fax: 740-593-2834
