I think featuring a state's PD model/system is good, but what about states who don't have a model or system in place statewide? Here, training is mostly left to individual institutions even though the state provides a training calendar on the state website. Individuals from in or out of state may facilitate training at conferences throughout the year and for some that may be the only exposure to PD. I'd like to hear about issues/topics that others on the list have actually facilitated. It would be nice if there were a means to share data from workshops/training that others have been to other than training like COABE or other large groups.

Hello everyone,
Earlier this fall, I requested ideas for discussion, and some responded. I'd
like to share an idea with you; please let me know what you think.

In the past, folks have mentioned the reason why they are subscribed to this
list is to learn what others are doing in professional development. It might
be interesting if we featured a state's PD model/system, or particular state
initiatives on the NIFL-AALPD list (perhaps once a month or every other month)
by inviting the PD folks from that state to share a bit about their
system/work.

Is this something that you would like to see/try on the list? Other discussion
ideas? I'm always open for suggestions.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Jackie Taylor, List Facilitator, jataylor@utk.edu
